Enjoy the historical converted barn

Kartano Kievari was founded in the premises of the old Suojoki Farm. The main building was completed in 1889 and it used to serve as a barn, housing nearly 100 cows.

Today the historic building offers a great platform for private hires and
bespoke events. The regular in-house entertainment includes Social Dancing and outdoor Summer Theater, both of which are a unique part of the Finnish culture. The restaurant is open upon request or during events.

In high season the breakfast buffet is being served daily including fried eggs and bacon. In low season breakfast baskets are provided directly to the rooms.

For groups we cater a vast variety of activities and local tours.

Vibrant since the Stone Ages

The fertile grounds of Suojoki have been culturally vibrant since the prehistoric times. As the area was situated between two rapids, there was always plenty of fish to catch. Due to constant water supply, there was plenty of food to gather as well. Many stone age discoveries have been made in this area, even during the building works of the modern church standing across the street from Kartano Kievari.

Today the flow of rapids has slowed right down due to Hietama dam, but the agriculture still thrives in the area. The rest of the rapids in the area have been dredged, except Naarakoski which still runs wild and is a very popular fishing destination.

Experience Hietama Church accross the street

Accross the street from Kartano Kievari you can visit a breath-taking church designed by
Timo Suomalainen. Timo Suomalainen and his brother have also designed Temppeliaukio Church in Helsinki, which gathers one million visitors annually.

In Hietama Church you can see Timo Suominen's masterwork up close in small and more private surroundings. The light enters the building mainly from the ceiling and the whole church is surrounded by very picturesque Finnish landscapes.

The church is not open regularly during the year, however you are always welcome to take a stroll in the beautiful park and cemetery. Hietama Church is situated just across the street from us.
